Are you a young person 21 years or under with musical talent waiting to be discovered?
The stage is opening up, with full professional sound and lighting, to give the opportunity to showcase your talent.
But first, we’d like you to send an audition clip, about one-minute in length, to our email kilkivangreathorseride@gmail.com or message to our Facebook page by midnight 22 March 2024.
Successful nominees will be notified by the 26 March 2024.
The entry fee is $20 per solo or group artist, which is only payable if your audition is chosen to compete.
The winner will receive a cash prize and have the opportunity to perform two songs on Friday night prior to our headline act, Tennessee Lights, on Saturday night.

Street Parade
Saturday afternoon the Kilkivan Great Horse Ride literally stops traffic as hundreds of riders gather to parade down the main street of town celebrating the end of a successful day’s ride and the anticipation of a fantastic night’s entertainment to come.
Camp Oven Cook-Off
Got a secret family recipe that you want to show off and put to the test? We are set to welcome people from near and far who take their camp oven cooking very seriously! Who will be judged the 2024 KGHR best camp oven cooker?
RULES
- Meat (1 kg of beef) and fire wood provided.
- The contestant provides all other equipment and ingredients.
- No electric or battery operated appliances allowed.
Competition 1: Beef Stew
Competition 2: Damper
- Camp fires are not allowed at camp sites.
- No commercial pre-packaged products are to be used. This includes commercial pre-packaged items such as ready made dry or wet flavour bases including Gravox. Spices, seasonings and sauces, such as tomato or BBQ are permitted.
- All other ingredients must be gathered before the cook-off commences and must be available for judges to inspect at any time during the cook.
- Please bring your own esky or cold storage for additional ingredients.
- Meat will be refrigerated on-site until required for the cook-off.
- Dishes are not to be sold to the public, however you may share tastings with the public if you follow safe food handling guidelines.
- KGHR will have a small amount of disposable serving items available for this purpose.
JUDGING
- Plates must be ready for judging at 2.00pm 6 April.
- Dishes will be judged on flavour, texture/consistency, cleanliness and presentation.
- Fires will be lit after 5.00am Saturday morning.
- Entrants may have one assistant within the designated area at any one time
- Enclosed footwear must be worn at ALL times.

Light Horse Regiment
The Fifth Light Horse Regiment, Gympie Troop will be leading the main street parade and also performing a demonstration on Sunday 7 April in the campdraft arena.
The 5th Light Horse Regiment was raised in Brisbane in September 1914, entirely from men who had enlisted in Queensland, and became part of the 2nd Light Horse Brigade. Sailing from Sydney on 21 December 1914, the regiment disembarked in Egypt on 1 February 1915
The troop will also have a light horse memorabilia display set up for the weekend.
Tennessee Lights Band
Tennessee Lights are the must have act at music events. And we’ve got them on Saturday night! With roots in Aussie Rock, the band’s original material is characterized by clean, crisp vocals, dynamic guitars and captivating drums.
Tennessee Lights will showcase their originals, bring their distinctive sound to crowd favorites and add new life to old classics, engaging the audience in a high powered, commanding performance every time they take the stage.

Working Dog Demonstration
In the undercover arena Saturday 6 April 9-11 am and 6-7.30pm.
See a fascinating glimpse into the world of cattle herding and the important role that working dogs play in the industry. Watch as handler and dog works together to herd a mob of cattle through a series of obstacles and challenges. The handler will give verbal commands and hand signals, and the dog will use its intelligence, instincts, and training to move the cattle in the desired direction.
Pack Saddling Demonstration
Come and see how to set up for a pack saddling adventure of a lifetime. The demonstration covers topics such as choosing your horses, horse boots, saddlery, pack saddle choice, what to take for a multi-day trip, how to weigh your packs, and how to pack a horse. There will be a saddled horse and a pack horse used to demonstrate. The demonstration will be held in one of the cattle yards behind the events hub area.
