The Kilkivan Great Horse Ride Committee elected to stand down at the annual general meeting held 1 September 2026.
This core group of five volunteers has steered this iconic regional signature event for the last three years and they feel the time has come for a break.
At the AGM there were no nominations to fill the positions of secretary, president & treasurer on the committee.
An interim committee was formed to enable a second meeting to be held for one last attempt to encourage people to step up and take the event forward into its 41st year.
Anyone considering volunteering should consider the following points:
The new committee has the opportunity to make this event what it wants.
It is possible to move the date of the event later in 2027 to enable more organising time.
It is also possible to make the event biennial and hold the next one in 2028.
The committee organising the event does not have to live in Kilkivan. With the help of technology, meetings can be held online and onsite visits can be scheduled.
Council’s community development and local Kilkivan staff are available for advice and assistance.
If you would like to discuss anything to do with what’s required of the committee, please reach out via the Facebook page and someone will get back to you.
